“For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him “Abba, Father.” For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. And since we are his children, we are his heirs.” The Bible
Today I was thinking about how I no longer have a mom or dad…orphaned. When I was writing my book, I thought about writing a chapter about being orphaned. What is the definition of an orphan? Here are a few: a child who has lost both parents through death; a person or thing that is without protective affiliation, sponsorship, etc.; not authorized, supported, or funded; not part of a system; isolated; abandoned.
Although I have been living independently from my parents for 34 years, I always knew they had our backs. In fact, they would often tell my husband and me that we were free to ask them for help if we ever needed it. Once or twice we did, but there was a degree of security knowing we had their support. Somehow this new season has made us the ones who are saying to our own children, “We have your backs. We are here if you need us.”
Who now has our backs? Who is protecting and supporting us? Where do we go if we need help? The bible tells me not to be afraid because I have my Abba, Father translated Daddy, God. I will always be his child because He has adopted me as His own. In fact, I am His heir. Heir to a Daddy who owns the universe where there is no lack. No one has to be an orphan because He is willing to adopt us all. I do not have to be afraid because my Daddy, God has my back and is supporting and protecting me and my family.
The following video inspired me today concerning orphans and adoption. Enjoy.
