Remembering my parents brings me great comfort. Recently, I took the time to read this poem I wrote almost 20 years ago. It was my parents 40th wedding anniversary party, and I read it aloud to them. Hope you enjoy it.
I Remember
I remember Florida when Daddy held a monkey.
We took your picture – you looked very funky!
I remember Italy – The Colosseum in Rome.
the painting of Michael Angelo in St. Peter’s Dome
I remember horseback riding at the Shapanack.
Rich memories of my past – there is no lack.
I remember donuts every Sunday morn,
before church, at the crack of dawn!
I remember holidays and the wonderful smells that filled the air –
of Mom’s good cooking, and the aprons she’d wear.
I remember family and friends that came to our place,
always met with warmth, love, and a smile on your face.
I remember the day I wed, and all that you could give,
all of my life in teaching and training on how that I should live.
I remember when I had children of my own,
now it is my turn to carry on the seeds that you have sown.
I remember….
so – I give you honor and respect on this your special day.
I love you very much, thank you for showing me the way.
